Gluten Free Recipe Pantry Staples

I do a lot of gluten free baking and cooking so there are some things I keep stocked up in my pantry year-round. Whether you’re just getting started on your gluten free journey or you’ve been at it for a while, I hope this list can be helpful.

So in my home, everything is 100% gluten free, which allows for a fully-stocked five shelves of ingredients plus some overflow space.

In no particular order, here’s what I keep stocked 24/7 in terms of dry ingredients:

  • All purpose GF flours (I prefer Bobs Red Mill & Krusteaz for big brands and locally, Pushkins has their blend for sale too)
  • Organic Cocoa Powder
  • Organic Cane Sugar
  • Turbinado Cane Sugar
  • Whey Protein Isolate
  • Expandex
  • Tapioca Starch
  • Almond Flour
  • Masa Harina (specifically for homemade tortillas)
  • Brown Sugar (dark and/or light)
  • GF Oats (I trust Bobs Red Mill as certified)
  • Bread Crumbs (4C & Ian’s are staples; Trader Joe’s rice crumbs are also good to have around)
  • Corn Starch

  • Merengue Powder
  • Arrowroot
  • Psyllium Husk Powder
  • Potato Starch

  • Agar Agar
  • Yeast

In terms of spices and seasonings, I try to keep these fully stocked too:

  • Sea Salt (fine, coarse and flakey)
  • Kosher Salt
  • Turmeric
  • Pumpkin Spice
  • Garlic Powder
  • Nutmeg
  • Allspice
  • Ginger
  • Cloves
  • Cream of Tartar
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Sazon

As it comes to “liquid” staples, I always keep these on hand too:

  • Vanilla Extract (homemade)
  • Peppermint Extract
  • Cinnamon Extract
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Almond Milk
  • Coconut Milk
  • Coconut Cream
  • Coconut Butter
  • Corn Syrup
  • Golden Syrup
  • Apple Sauce
  • Jam
  • Molasses
  • Pure Maple Syrup
  • GF Soy Sauce
  • Chickpeas (for aquafaba)
  • Canned Pumpkin
  • Peanut Butter
  • Chicken or Vegetable Stock
  • Vinegar
  • Lemon Juice
  • Honey
  • Olive Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Vegetable Oil

There are other specialty items I keep or may have got for a specific recipe, but above are all of the ingredients that make up the bones of my pantry.

After 9+ years, I know what has worked and what hasn’t for me personally and would gladly save you some strife and wasted funds there. Hopefully, this can serve as a checklist for staples to stock up on when you need to go gluten free full time. As with anything, if you have any questions on brands, selections or otherwise, I’m happy to share my experiences.
